Donald Trump posts picture of himself dressed in Pope outfit as Catholics fume - 'lunatic'

A bizarre image posted by Donald Trump on his Truth Social platform has sparked a wave of reactions online. The post, which shows the former president dressed as the Pope, has garnered 12,000 likes and been reposted over 3,000 times.

Reactions on social media have ranged from confusion to outrage. One user remarked, “Yes, the lunatic really posted this.” Another commented, “He’ll post himself as Jesus next. The irony is that many Christians who support him seem unbothered by what’s clearly a mockery of their faith.”

Robert Musella shared his disapproval, writing: “As a Catholic, as a Christian, and as a human being, I’m angered. This isn’t leadership—it’s a circus act masquerading as divine right.”

Still, others defended Trump, insisting the post was intended as satire. One user, Phoenix, wrote, “Omg, get out and touch some grass! He’s JOKING!”

The post comes just days before the start of the papal conclave, scheduled for Wednesday, May 7, where 133 cardinal electors will convene in the Sistine Chapel to choose a successor to the late Pope Francis. The process requires a two-thirds majority vote, often taking several rounds to conclude.

Trump, who attended Pope Francis’s funeral, added fuel to the conversation by making a tongue-in-cheek remark about the papacy. Speaking to a reporter last Tuesday, he said, “I’d like to be Pope—that would be my number one choice!”

He followed the comment by stating he has “no preference” regarding who should replace Francis, though he added, “We have a cardinal from a place called New York who’s very good, so we’ll see what happens.”
