'Obscene' Giant Donald Trump Statue in Pennsylvania Angers GOP: 'Appalling'

Oh, what a surprise! A giant, unauthorized nude statue of Donald Trump in Philadelphia has sent shockwaves through the city, and of course, the GOP is having a meltdown. Vince Fenerty, the local Republican chair and known sex scandal enthusiast, is outraged. He’s filed an obscenity complaint with the police, calling the statue “appalling”—as if the real world doesn't have enough things to be appalled by.

Fenerty, perhaps forgetting about his own questionable past, told Newsweek in a lovely email that the statue’s placement near daycares and schools was completely unacceptable. Clearly, the El train views were just too much for him to handle. He also made sure to add that this was a formal complaint filed on behalf of the Trump Campaign and the Pennsylvania Republican Party. Very official stuff, clearly.

The statue, which is a massive 43-foot sculpture of a very naked Trump, has certainly earned some stares. It’s got Trump leering at a similarly nude figure in a park, with a plaque reading “In Honor of a Lifetime of Sexual Assault.” This is, of course, a reference to his infamous Access Hollywood tape where he casually made lewd remarks about women. Very subtle, right?

The statue is a little more creative than the usual monuments: Trump’s depicted as a marionette hanging from a crane. Art, people! Just art. Naturally, the GOP has called this “provocative” and “inappropriate” because nothing says “good taste” like scandal-ridden political figures reacting to art they clearly don’t understand.

But, wait! It gets even juicier. Fenerty, who resigned amid a series of sexual harassment claims (oh, the irony), claimed the police asked for the statue to be taken down. Yet, the space had been rented for 24 hours, so it had to stay up. Imagine the drama.

And if that’s not enough, this statue is touring the U.S. on the “Crooked and Obscene Tour.” The statue, weighing a mere 6,000 pounds, is designed to make a statement about transparency (or the complete lack of it) in politics. How bold. How brash. It's definitely got people talking—and questioning who’s behind it. We may never know who funded this giant foam masterpiece, but one thing’s for sure: it’s a protest on the road to the 2024 election.

Public reactions have been a mix of laughter and, well, more outrage, but you have to admit, it's giving us all something to think about, even if it's just about the absurdity of it all.
