Former Attorney General Pam Bondi has denied any knowledge of an alleged FBI investigation into claims that former FBI Director James Comey orchestrated a "honeypot" operation targeting Donald Trump a decade ago.
On Tuesday, The Washington Times reported that the FBI was looking into a whistleblower's claim that Comey, who was fired by Trump in 2017, had ordered an off-the-books investigation into Trump’s 2016 campaign.
According to the whistleblower’s disclosure to the House Judiciary Committee last year, two female undercover agents infiltrated Trump’s campaign and were instructed to act as "honeypots" while traveling with Trump and his staff. The FBI, now led by Trump appointee Kash Patel, is reportedly searching for the agents involved.
When asked about the alleged probe during an appearance on Jesse Watters Primetime on Fox News, Bondi denied any awareness of the situation.
"We're hearing reports that there was an investigation opened into James Comey, who may have thrown honeypots at Donald Trump back in 2015, 2016. Is that true?" host Jesse Watters asked.
Bondi responded, "Jesse, I don’t know anything about what you're saying about James Comey right now. Don't know anything about that."
After his confirmation as FBI director, Patel posted on X (formerly Twitter) on February 20, stating: "The American people deserve an FBI that is transparent, accountable, and committed to justice. The politicization of our justice system has eroded public trust—but that ends today."
Meanwhile, Michael Flynn, a retired Army general and Trump’s former national security adviser, commented on The Alex Jones Show this week: "The guns are coming out metaphorically, right? And Comey is going to be one of the first targets."
Comey himself addressed Trump’s influence over the Justice Department and FBI in a May interview with MSNBC, warning: "Trump is coming for those institutions. He knows their power, and I think he has regrets that he didn’t work hard enough to corrupt them last time. So he’s coming for them, and that’s a danger for all Americans. He’s going to put people in positions in those organizations … who will want to do his will, and that should worry every American."
It remains unclear whether additional details about the reported investigation will surface.
