Donald Trump stirred controversy after weighing in on the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, offering a brief but telling reaction while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One.
During a Fox News segment, correspondent Peter Doocy asked the president whether Americans connected to Jeffrey Epstein might eventually face arrest, following news that the former Duke of York had been taken into custody in the UK. Rather than directly addressing that question, Trump shifted the focus to himself.
“Well, you know, I’m the expert in a way, because I’ve been totally exonerated,” he said. “It’s very nice. I can actually speak about it very nicely. I think it’s a shame. I think it’s very sad. I think it’s so bad for the royal family.”
His three-word summary — “It’s very sad” — quickly drew attention, especially because he emphasized his own claim of exoneration instead of discussing whether accountability might extend to others connected to Epstein in the United States.
On social media, many critics expressed frustration. Some pointed out that the question had been about potential U.S. investigations, not Trump personally. Others noted that while he described the situation as unfortunate for the royal family, he did not address the victims at the center of the Epstein scandal. A number of commentators described the response as deflective and self-focused.
The reaction came just hours after Andrew, the brother of King Charles, was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He was taken into custody at Aylsham police station in Norfolk and later released under investigation, according to Thames Valley Police. Authorities confirmed that searches conducted in Norfolk have concluded and said no further statements would be issued at this time.
Andrew has consistently denied wrongdoing related to his past association with Jeffrey Epstein. His arrest follows the recent release of millions of pages of documents connected to the convicted financier, reigniting scrutiny on prominent figures who had ties to him.
As investigations continue on both sides of the Atlantic, questions about transparency and accountability remain at the forefront — particularly for those who believe that justice should center on survivors and the full scope of the network surrounding Epstein.
