Kid Rock unexpectedly shifted the tone of Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle after launching into a heated defense of his recent All-American Halftime Show performance, following online accusations that he lip-synced during the set.
The moment brought the show to an abrupt pause as the rocker vented his frustration over the backlash. The 55-year-old musician, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, had performed at an event promoted as a conservative alternative to the Super Bowl halftime show. The performance was organized alongside Turning Point USA and positioned as a response to Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny headlining the official NFL halftime spectacle.
Soon after the show aired, critics began circulating clips online, claiming Kid Rock wasn’t singing live despite promises that the performance would be authentic. Those claims quickly gained traction across social media, prompting the artist to address them directly during his appearance on The Ingraham Angle on Monday, February 9.
Laura Ingraham opened the segment by reflecting on her long-held belief that music and politics should remain separate. She referenced her book Shut Up and Sing and emphasized her appreciation for music on its own merits before asking Kid Rock to explain why parts of his opening song appeared out of sync.
Kid Rock acknowledged the issue but rejected the idea that it was intentional. He explained that the problem stemmed from a technical syncing error rather than lip-syncing. According to him, the DJ who normally performs the track with him was not properly lit during the event, contributing to the confusion.
He added that, rather than arguing with critics online, he planned to address the controversy head-on. The musician said his DJ was flying to Nashville, where they would perform the song live together in his living room and post the video publicly to demonstrate how the performance actually works.
Kid Rock argued that if the performance had been pre-recorded, syncing the audio would have been easy. Instead, he said the live nature of the show made it difficult for the production team to keep everything aligned, especially given how physically active he was on stage. He described jumping around, rapping, breathing between verses, and relying on his DJ to fill in parts of the track.
He also noted that he had flagged the syncing issue himself after reviewing an early cut of the performance, asking the production team to try to correct it. Despite praising the Turning Point USA crew, he admitted the situation was challenging to fix under the circumstances.
Concluding his remarks, Kid Rock said he would release the live video as a response to critics, whom he accused of amplifying the controversy for political reasons. He framed the incident as another example of what he sees as unfair media narratives.
Ingraham closed the segment by complimenting his high-energy performance, joking that his onstage movement was impressive for someone no longer in his thirties.
