Fox News guest branded 'demented' as she lashes out at Stephen Colbert

On February 16, The Late Show host Stephen Colbert went ahead and interviewed a guest who had previously been barred from appearing on the CBS program.

The interview featured Texas State Representative James Talarico, 36, who was prevented from appearing due to new guidance from FCC Chair Brendan Carr. The “equal time” rule requires broadcasters to provide airtime to rival candidates if they feature a qualified political candidate. Colbert, 61, posted the full interview on YouTube, and Talarico shared it on X, commenting, “This is the interview Donald Trump didn’t want you to see. His FCC refused to air my interview with Stephen Colbert. Trump is worried we’re about to flip Texas.”

Shortly after, former Disney star Caroline Sunshine weighed in during a February 18 appearance on Fox News’ Sean Hannity Show. Sunshine criticized Colbert’s approach, calling him “afraid to have the president on his show” and claiming he has “a very unhealthy obsession with President Trump,” noting that Colbert mentions him in nearly every monologue. She argued that Colbert’s audience has been conditioned to view Trump as a “bad, scary, authoritarian figure,” while in reality, she believes the president is “affable, likable, and funny.”

Sunshine suggested that Trump should appear on Colbert’s show, noting he hasn’t been a guest since 2015, and added, “Based on Colbert's response, we'll find out who's silencing who.”

Her comments sparked reactions on social media. Some Fox News viewers criticized her statements, arguing that Trump’s public persona does not align with her description. One viewer wrote, “Affable, likable, funny guy? Sunshine, have you actually listened to or watched Donald Trump?” Another commented, “We see Trump enough he puts on the same rally speech anytime someone hands him a mic to know he is unlikable no matter where he is.”

Despite the backlash, Sunshine did find some support. One social media user sided with her, suggesting, “Colbert would love to have Trump on. He needs the ratings.”
