Donald Trump has renewed his attacks on Barack Obama, this time claiming that the former president revealed “classified material” while discussing aliens on a recent podcast. The remarks came after Obama appeared on the No-Lie Podcast with Brian Tyler Cohen, where he was asked about extraterrestrial life. Obama responded, “They’re real but I haven’t seen them,” adding that they were not being kept at Area 51, the famously secretive U.S. Air Force base in Nevada long linked to alien conspiracy theories.
Trump, speaking to a Fox News reporter aboard Air Force One, said he was uncertain whether aliens exist but suggested he might “get [Obama] out of trouble by declassifying” information, arguing that Obama “wasn’t supposed to be doing that.”
In response to the podcast, Obama clarified on Instagram that his comments were meant to fit the pace of a rapid-fire interview. He emphasized that while the vastness of the universe makes extraterrestrial life statistically plausible, there is no evidence that Earth has been visited by aliens. He wrote, “I saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really!”
Later, Trump announced on Truth Social that he would take steps to release government records on the subject. He said he would direct the relevant departments and agencies to identify and release files related to aliens, extraterrestrial life, and unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs), calling the topic “highly complex, but extremely interesting and important.”
This follows Pentagon disclosures after a 2024 hearing, which revealed hundreds of UAP reports. Of these, 21 incidents warranted additional review due to “anomalous characteristics and/or behaviors,” though none provided evidence of extraterrestrial activity.
