Volodymyr Zelensky has revealed that the White House set a timeline for Ukraine and Russia to reach a peace agreement, with June reportedly marked as the target month for progress.
As Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities continue, Donald Trump has publicly increased pressure on Zelensky to move faster toward a ceasefire. The U.S. president said that if Ukraine wants a lasting peace, its leader needs to act quickly or risk missing what he described as a major opportunity. According to Trump, Russia is ready to negotiate, and the moment should not be wasted.
Zelensky, however, has framed a potential peace deal as not only vital for saving lives but also politically significant for Trump. He suggested that ending the war before the upcoming midterm elections would represent a major achievement for the U.S. president. In an interview with The Atlantic, Zelensky said there would be no greater accomplishment for Trump’s legacy than bringing the conflict to an end. He acknowledged that while reducing casualties is the priority, a successful agreement would also deliver a substantial political win for Trump.
Ukraine’s foreign minister, Andrii Sybiha, echoed the importance of U.S. involvement. He stated that negotiations are moving forward and expressed appreciation for American support. Sybiha emphasized that Ukraine’s security is closely tied to transatlantic stability and argued that without Trump’s leadership, ending the war would be extremely difficult.
With a reported deadline approaching and pressure building from Washington, diplomatic efforts appear to be entering a critical phase as both sides weigh their next steps.
