A recent appearance by psychologist Dr. John Gartner on Piers Morgan’s Uncensored has sparked debate after he raised concerns about Donald Trump’s mental fitness.
During the interview, Dr. Gartner argued that Trump may be showing signs of cognitive decline, suggesting that his behavior has noticeably changed over time. He went as far as to say that, in his view, Trump is “not compos mentis,” pointing to what he described as a pattern of worsening symptoms. According to Gartner, some medical professionals have raised similar concerns, and he specifically mentioned the possibility of frontotemporal dementia a condition that can affect judgment, impulse control, and behavior.
Gartner emphasized that this type of condition typically progresses rather than stabilizes, claiming that what he sees is not just a long-term change but something that appears to be accelerating. He linked this to what he described as increasingly erratic or uninhibited public behavior, arguing that deterioration in the brain’s frontal lobes could explain reduced restraint and decision-making capacity.
However, Piers Morgan pushed back during the interview. He noted that he had personally spoken with Trump not long before and did not observe any obvious signs of cognitive impairment during that conversation. Morgan also raised a broader question about consistency, asking whether similar public concerns had been expressed about other political figures, including President Joe Biden. He suggested that political bias could be influencing how such claims are presented.
The exchange highlights an ongoing and often contentious debate: how to responsibly assess and discuss the mental fitness of public leaders, especially when medical opinions are offered from a distance and can easily become entangled with political perspectives.
