CNN recently interrupted its regular programming to deliver a breaking update about former President Donald Trump, prompting many viewers to label the coverage as “pathetic.” The news focused on Trump’s alleged use of the alias John Barron when communicating with journalists a practice the former president has consistently denied.
Earlier this week, C-SPAN captured a striking moment when a caller identifying as John Barron called in to complain about the Supreme Court’s decision to block Trump’s tariffs. The call was abruptly cut off mid-conversation. John Barron was a pseudonym Trump reportedly used during the 1980s and 1990s, and this week, a call under that name once again drew attention.
In the call, the voice remarkably similar to Trump’s claimed:
“Well this is John Barron and look, this is the worst decision you ever had in your life… Jack’s going to agree with me, right? But this is a terrible decision… you have Hakeem Jeffries, he’s a dope, and you have Chuck Schumer, who can’t cook a cheeseburger of course these people are happy. But true Americans will not be happy. You had the woman earlier assume she’s a Democrat she said she’s disgraced, she’s devastated.”
PATHETIC: Despite denying it was him, CNN once aired all the times Trump called into journalists as John Barron.

They reported at the time that it was such an obvious “open secret for so long that it’s hard to believe anyone is still questioning it.” https://t.co/Zj5ZgRW60t pic.twitter.com/Pdvc1hcB5r
The incident resurfaced after a social media user shared clips of CNN previously documenting multiple instances where Trump allegedly called journalists under the John Barron alias. The post read:
“PATHETIC: Despite denying it was him, CNN once aired all the times Trump called into journalists as John Barron. They reported it as an ‘open secret’ that had been obvious for years, making it hard to believe anyone is still questioning it.”
CNN’s report noted that it was widely known Trump sometimes used a different name to personally handle media calls, though Trump continues to deny any involvement. On The Today Show, he stated:
“No, I don’t know anything about it. It doesn’t sound like my voice at all. I have many, many people who are trying to imitate my voice. This sounds like one of those scams and it doesn’t sound like me.”

A man named “John Barron” who sounds like Trump called into C-SPAN to complain about the Supreme Court's decision to stop tariffs.
John Barron is the fake name Trump used to use to speak with journalists. Is it Trump??
