Donald Trump has once again sparked online discussion about his health after appearing with noticeably swollen ankles during a recent appearance on Josh Pate’s College Football Show. A photo from the interview, shared on X, shows Trump seated at a table with his trousers slightly raised, revealing visible swelling around his right ankle.
Social media users were quick to comment on the image. Some pointed out the apparent swelling, while others questioned claims that he is as energetic as ever, contrasting those statements with videos that show him moving more slowly and holding onto railings for support.
According to statements from the White House and medical evaluations conducted by his physician, the swelling is attributed to chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). This is a common, age-related circulatory condition in which the veins in the legs do not efficiently return blood to the heart, leading to pooling in the lower extremities and visible swelling.
Trump was assessed by the White House Medical Unit as a precaution after the swelling was observed. His physician, Dr. Sean Barbabella, said a comprehensive examination confirmed CVI and described it as a benign and common condition. He emphasized that there was no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease.
Medical testing also reportedly showed normal heart structure and function, with no signs of heart failure, kidney problems, or other systemic illnesses. According to his doctor, Trump remains in excellent overall health despite the circulatory issue.
