How Donald Trump Favorability Compares To Bad Bunny

A new YouGov survey is adding fresh fuel to the culture clash that erupted after the Super Bowl halftime show.

According to the poll, global music superstar Bad Bunny currently holds a higher favorability rating than President Donald Trump. The survey found that 43% of respondents view Bad Bunny favorably, compared to 39% for Trump. On the other hand, 36% expressed an unfavorable opinion of the singer, while 58% said the same about the president putting Trump more than 12 points underwater nationally.

Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, is one of the most streamed artists in the world. The NFL selected him to headline the halftime show, where he delivered a performance entirely in Spanish. The set quickly became a political flashpoint. The Puerto Rican artist has been outspoken in his criticism of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), drawing backlash from conservative figures. Some of that criticism has itself been called out for crossing into racially charged rhetoric.

President Trump publicly criticized the NFL’s decision to feature both Bad Bunny and Green Day, calling it a “terrible choice.” After the game, he posted on Truth Social that the performance was “absolutely terrible” and “one of the worst EVER,” adding, “Nobody understands a word this guy is saying,” in reference to the Spanish-language performance.

It’s worth noting that more than 50 million people in the United States speak Spanish as a first or second language a significant portion of the population.

The YouGov survey asked respondents whether they held favorable or unfavorable views of several public figures and institutions, including Trump, Bad Bunny, California Governor Gavin Newsom, former President Barack Obama, and ICE. Among those listed, Bad Bunny had the lowest unfavorability rating.

For comparison:

  • Gavin Newsom registered 33% favorable and 43% unfavorable.

  • Barack Obama stood at 55% favorable and 41% unfavorable.

  • ICE recorded 37% favorable and 58% unfavorable.

The poll was conducted online between February 9 and February 12 with a nationally representative sample of 1,704 U.S. adults. The margin of error was 3 percentage points.

This survey arrives as other national polling shows Trump’s approval rating slipping to its lowest level of his second term. A recent survey from the Public Polling Project reported that 54.6% disapprove of the job he is doing.

In response to polling trends, White House spokesman Davis Ingle previously stated that the “ultimate poll” took place on November 5, 2024, when nearly 80 million Americans voted in the presidential election.

Public opinion, of course, is never static. Favorability and approval ratings can shift over time — especially in a political climate where pop culture, immigration, and presidential politics increasingly collide.
