Melania not a fan of Donald's 'inappropriate' YMCA dance, says she does it better

First Lady Melania Trump recently appeared on Fox News’ The Five to promote her new documentary, Melania. Her visit came shortly after ringing the bell at the New York Stock Exchange, continuing a press tour aimed at giving viewers an intimate look into her life behind the scenes.

During the roundtable, Trump loyalist Jesse Watters and the other hosts took the chance to ask Melania about former President Donald Trump’s infamous dance moves. In the run-up to the election, Trump was often seen performing the iconic YMCA, along with other playful antics like serving fries at McDonald’s or dressing as a garbage man. Watters asked Melania what she really thought about these moments.

“The final 20 days, your husband was having a lot of fun. He was serving fries at McDonald's. He was dressing up as the garbage man with the vest on and doing the YMCA,” Watters said. “When he’s doing the YMCA, he says you don’t like it. How do you feel?”

Melania replied diplomatically: “I like it at certain times. Some days, it was not appropriate, and I told him so. But it’s his dance, and I think people love it. People in sports, all around the world, they’re dancing, and it’s a great atmosphere… So, it brings happiness and fun.” She added, however, that there are moments when the president needs to “be serious as well,” concluding, “I think he’s doing just fine.”

Her remarks come amid ongoing public fascination with Trump’s behavior and health, which has recently sparked major health concerns and broad media coverage about his cognitive and physical state. The documentary itself has also struggled at the box office, with early screenings reporting low attendance, highlighting the challenges the film has faced in attracting audiences.

Watters then asked if Melania had ever tried the YMCA herself. “I did,” she responded, prompting a surprised reaction from the host. “It’s different than his,” she added coyly.

The interview quickly caught fire on social media. Some users found her comments amusing, joking about her setting boundaries for Trump’s dance moments, while others criticized the network for focusing on such lighthearted topics amid ongoing nationwide protests over ICE operations. One X user commented, “This is what you discussed with all the issues going on?” Additional coverage of Fox News’ surprising moments has fueled further debate about the network’s editorial choices.

The documentary itself provides an intimate look at her life during the 20-day transition leading up to Trump’s second inauguration, showcasing her role in planning the event, managing family life, philanthropy, and navigating the return to the White House. Ahead of its London premiere, reports indicate only one ticket was sold for a mid-afternoon screening.

Melania also shared Donald Trump’s reaction to the film, saying, “He saw the movie on the first day, on Saturday, and he loved it.” This fits into a larger narrative of Trump’s continued media attention, from public statements to controversial moments that dominate headlines.
