Fox News viewers fact-check 'deranged' Donald Trump as he's caught lying live on air

Fox News viewers are expressing frustration with Donald Trump after his recent press conference at Mar-a-Lago, where many felt he contradicted his own prior statements.

On February 1, Trump spoke to reporters at Mar-a-Lago, just hours before Dan Scavino, one of his Deputy White House Chiefs of Staff, got married at the resort. During the press briefing, he addressed topics including negotiations with Cuba, tensions with Iran, and whether ICE agents should wear body cameras.

However, much of the attention focused on Trump’s response to a question about a recent Republican loss in Texas. The special election in northern Tarrant County saw Democrat and union leader Taylor Rehmet defeat Republican Leigh Wambsganss by 14 points. This was a significant swing, especially considering Trump had carried the district by 17 points in the 2024 presidential election. It marked the first time a Democrat had won that district since before 1982, prompting some analysts to see it as a potential warning sign for Republicans heading into the 2026 midterms.

Before the election, Trump had publicly endorsed Wambsganss on Truth Social, calling her a “GREAT candidate” and a “true MAGA warrior,” and urged voters to support her.

Yet during the press conference, Trump appeared to forget his endorsement. When asked about the Texas election, he initially claimed, “I don’t know, I didn’t hear about it. Somebody ran, where?” and later insisted, “I’m not involved in that. That’s a local Texas race.” He also suggested the outcome wasn’t necessarily transferable and repeated that he had “nothing to do with it.”

Many Fox News viewers quickly took to X to fact-check Trump’s remarks, pointing out that he had publicly endorsed Wambsganss just the day before the election. Comments ranged from questioning why he appeared to lie, to reminding him of his Truth Social posts, to simply calling out the contradiction.

Examples of responses included:

  • “Why is Trump LYING…he enthusiastically endorsed a Republican candidate ‘just’ yesterday?!”

  • “Other than you literally posted on social media to vote for the Republican.”

  • “Didn't you endorse the candidate that lost last night to a Democrat?”

The reaction highlighted growing scrutiny from even some of Trump’s traditional supporters, with many calling attention to the inconsistency between his words and actions.
