The US Department of Justice recently released millions of documents related to investigations into the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In response, Donald Trump spoke publicly for the first time since the release.
Trump claimed that the documents cleared him of any allegations linking him to Epstein, adding that "the radical left" had hoped for the opposite outcome. He said, "I didn't see it myself but I was told by some very important people that not only does it absolve me, it's the opposite of what people were hoping, you know, the radical left."
The former president’s name appears in what seem to be internal emails from federal investigators dated August 2025, as they looked into claims involving him and Epstein. In earlier documents released last year, Trump was also listed in flight logs for Epstein’s notorious private island from 1993 to 1997.
Being named in these files does not imply wrongdoing, and Trump has repeatedly denied any involvement. The emails make no indication that the claims were verified, and investigators found several of the accusers to be not credible.
Trump’s social connection with Epstein is well-documented, spanning from the late 1980s to the early 2000s. They were often seen together at parties in New York and Florida. In 2002, Trump described Epstein as a "terrific guy" who liked women "on the younger side."
However, after Epstein’s death in 2019, Trump said they had a falling out around 2004 over a dispute concerning a Palm Beach mansion. He later claimed he banned Epstein from Mar-a-Lago, calling him a "creep" who harassed a member’s daughter.
