Newsom slams 'disgusting' Trump as vile racist Obama monkey image sparks outrage

California Governor Gavin Newsom has condemned former President Donald Trump for sharing a deeply offensive video depicting Michelle and Barack Obama as monkeys. Describing the act as “disgusting,” Newsom urged all Republicans to publicly denounce the post.

The 79-year-old former president uploaded the video during a late-night posting spree on his Truth Social platform. While the video touches on Trump’s repeated and unfounded claims of 2020 election fraud, it takes a disturbing turn around the 59-second mark, where an AI-generated clip shows the Obamas’ faces placed onto the bodies of monkeys. In the background, the 1961 song The Lion Sleeps Tonight plays, further adding to the video’s racially charged nature.

Social media quickly erupted with criticism. The Governor’s press office posted on X: “Disgusting behavior by the President. Every single Republican must denounce this. Now.” Other users called the post racist and shameful, with one describing it as a “new rock bottom” for Trump. Another user commented, “Donald Trump, the most openly racist President since slavery was abolished, just shared a video of Michelle & Barack Obama as APES. This is what the Republican party is now.”

The offensive video, which Trump shared twice during Black History Month, was only part of his flurry of posts. Much of his recent social media activity has centered on his persistent and unproven claims of election fraud, which he has amplified as the midterm elections approach. In another post, Trump shared a video of Bruce Lee fighting alongside the caption, “This can be a great option if things don’t work out.” For example, his recent chilling threats to Iran and public antics involving would-be assassins have drawn widespread attention. His actions even caused Fox News to halt broadcasts amid the chaos.

This erratic posting comes in the wake of Trump’s call for Republicans to “take over” the election process. On a conservative podcast, he suggested that Republicans should seize control of voting in at least 15 states and even proposed nationalizing elections, remarks that have sparked concern over attempts to undermine democratic processes. Meanwhile, his behavior has continued to make headlines with stories about Melania Trump’s public appearances and controversial Valentine’s Day emails.
