Man arrested for ‘threatening to kill Donald Trump with sword’

A 45-year-old Massachusetts man is now facing serious federal charges after allegedly making repeated and explicit threats against former President Donald Trump.

According to court documents, Andrew D. Emerald of Great Barrington was arrested after posting multiple messages online in which he called for Trump’s death and claimed he would personally travel to Mar-a-Lago to carry it out if it didn’t happen by 2026. In one post, he reportedly wrote that he had “very good reason” to go after the former president himself.

Federal authorities say the situation escalated when agents arrived at his home to arrest him. After initially refusing to respond, Emerald allegedly appeared at the door holding a long sword and told officers they would have to shoot him. He then retreated inside and secured the door. Eventually, law enforcement was able to de-escalate the situation and convince him to surrender peacefully.

A subsequent search of the home reportedly uncovered several weapons, including multiple blades and two long swords.

Investigators also noted that this wasn’t the first time Emerald had come to their attention. Back in 2018, authorities had already visited him over similar online threats. At that time, he agreed to be added to a federal background check system, which prevented him from purchasing firearms.

More recently, officials received another tip indicating that Emerald had been making threats for years and had even stated he would harm law enforcement officers if they attempted to arrest him.

He has now been charged with eight counts of transmitting threatening communications across state lines. Each charge carries a potential penalty of up to five years in prison, along with substantial fines.

The case is a reminder of how seriously federal authorities treat direct threats, especially when they involve public figures and detailed intent.
