Donald Trump and Melania 'Non-Kiss' Goes Viral

On Monday, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump's brief "non-kiss" during his inauguration caught attention and went viral across social media.

This isn't the first time their public displays of affection have sparked interest. Back in May 2017, Melania made headlines when she appeared to swat away her husband's hand during a visit to Israel. In her memoir, *Melania*, she clarified that she swatted Trump's hand because he was walking ahead of her alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife, Sara. She explained that the "red carpet simply could not accommodate four of us abreast," calling it a "minor innocent gesture."

As Trump entered the U.S. Capitol rotunda for the swearing-in ceremony on Monday, he greeted Melania with what seemed to be an attempt at a kiss on her cheek. However, his kiss was interrupted by her wide-brimmed hat, stopping just inches from her face. This moment, which many saw as a comical near-miss, quickly went viral on social media.

Jeremy Art, a senior social media specialist at CSPAN, posted a video of the moment on X (formerly Twitter), where it racked up nearly 570,000 views by 11:45 a.m. ET. Russian state outlet RT shared the video with the caption: "Donald Trump almost successfully kisses Melania. Someone doesn't want to ruin their makeup (we'll leave it up to you to decide who)."

Communications consultant Bárbara Tijerina also shared the video with the caption "Melania and Trump's 'no kiss,'" adding the hashtag #LenguajeSinPalabras, or "language without words" in English.

Some Trump supporters, like Paul Szypula, interpreted the moment as a gesture of respect, with Szypula commenting on X, "Trump gives Melania an air-kiss as not to mess up her gorgeous look. That's respect."

In his inaugural address, Trump declared, "We will stand bravely, we will live proudly, we will dream boldly, and nothing will stand in our way because we are Americans. The future's ours, and our golden age has just begun."

On his first day as president, Trump is set to sign nearly 100 executive orders to put his new agenda into action. These include measures such as closing the U.S.-Mexico border, addressing the Russia-Ukraine war, rolling back Biden-era climate policies, and pardoning January 6 prisoners. Additionally, Trump plans to issue orders renaming two major natural landmarks: the Gulf of Mexico will become the Gulf of America, and Mount Denali, the highest peak in North America, will return to its previous federal name, Mount McKinley.
