J.D. Vance Flounders as Trump’s Tariff-Fueled Economic Wreckage Unravels

J.D. Vance Humiliates Himself Defending Trump’s Economic Disaster

MAGA Vice President J.D. Vance is setting his political future ablaze by publicly defending Donald Trump’s failing economic policies—and blaming President Biden for the fallout.

In a recent interview on Fox News, host Bret Baier pressed Vance on the shrinking economy and growing concerns about tariffs, asking, “The economy shrank. First time in three years. People are pointing to the tariff policy. There are people looking at their 401ks that are worried. What do you tell them? Is this going to work?”

Vance responded with deflection: “This is Joe Biden's economy… we inherited $2 trillion of debt, the highest peacetime deficits in American history, a $1.2 trillion trade deficit—which fundamentally means we're not making enough of our stuff.”

What Vance conveniently ignores is that debt and trade deficits have absolutely nothing to do with the immediate crisis Americans are facing. The economy isn’t faltering because of past deficits—it’s faltering because Trump slapped a reckless 145% tariff on Chinese imports, 25% on goods from Canada and Mexico, and 10% on nearly every other trade partner. These tariffs are driving up inflation and gutting supply chains, leaving small businesses drowning in costs and forcing layoffs across the country.

It’s not Biden’s policies causing store shelves to go empty or prices to skyrocket—it’s Trump’s trade war 2.0.

Even more absurd is Vance’s attempt to pin this mess on Biden, when Trump himself took credit just months ago. On Truth Social, Trump posted:

“THIS IS THE TRUMP STOCK MARKET BECAUSE MY POLLS AGAINST BIDEN ARE SO GOOD THAT INVESTORS ARE PROJECTING THAT I WILL WIN, AND THAT WILL DRIVE THE MARKET UP — EVERYTHING ELSE IS TERRIBLE… MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”

Despite that admission, Vance continued his defense of Trump like a loyal foot soldier:

“The president came in and said, ‘This is not always going to be easy… we need a reset… we need to be more self-aligned as an economy,’” he said, echoing Trump's usual slogans with zero substance.

If Trump were serious about reshoring jobs and creating a self-sufficient economy, he would have invested in American manufacturing before imposing tariffs. But that would mean spending federal dollars to support working Americans—something Republican leadership consistently avoids in favor of tax breaks for billionaires.

Vance and Trump aren’t leading a reset—they’re leading an economic demolition. And as they tank the economy, they’re shamelessly pointing fingers everywhere but the mirror.
