Attorney General Pam Bondi’s outfit at President Trump’s State of the Union quickly became a hot topic online, drawing comparisons to everything from Star Wars characters to karate uniforms.
President Donald Trump delivered the first State of the Union of his second term on Tuesday. While his speech dominated headlines, social media users were equally focused on the fashion choices of those in attendance most notably, Attorney General Bondi.
Bondi, who has been under intense scrutiny for the Department of Justice’s handling of documents tied to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, chose an oversized beige wrap trench coat suit. The ensemble featured two thin brown belts at the waist and matching beige pants.
Fashion experts identified the coat as the Daniel Wrap Belted Blazer Jacket by Gabriela Hearst, a luxury Latinx-owned brand. The jacket is priced at $3,350 on the Bergdorf Goodman website and is described as “wool crepe tailored with topstitching and cinched at the waist with a calfskin leather wrap belt.” It is a slim-fit design with padded shoulders, made in the United Kingdom, reflecting the current trend of oversized yet tailored jackets.
Despite the designer pedigree, many viewers felt Bondi’s outfit missed the mark. The pale beige tone combined with the oversized cut and cinched waist sparked a flurry of online commentary.
One user joked, “Great speech at the SOTU by President Trump… my personal highlight: Pam Bondi dressed as Han Solo.” Others likened the outfit to karate uniforms. Another social media post read:
“My first very, very serious take… WHAT IS PAM BONDI WEARING? The cinched waist is on the right track, but that belt, the silhouette, and the color just no.”
Some critics went further, questioning whether Bondi should have attended the address at all. One user wrote, “I am embarrassed to see Pam Bondi at the SOTU. Embarrassed.”
Bondi’s appearance came as several Democratic lawmakers boycotted the speech, choosing instead to attend a rally dubbed The People’s State of the Union near the Capitol. Rep. Summer Lee used the event to announce her intention to introduce articles of impeachment against Bondi, citing the DOJ’s continued refusal to release unredacted Epstein files.
“Trump’s DOJ continues to obstruct justice, and Bondi must be held accountable,” Lee said.
Although the president did not mention Epstein during his address, some lawmakers ensured the issue was highlighted by bringing survivors of Epstein’s abuse to the event, sending a clear signal about the administration’s handling of the files.
