Russia mocks Trump over latest Epstein Files release - 'He is mentioned!'

Russian media have shared their perspective on the recent release of the Epstein Files.

State-controlled outlets in Russia have highlighted the pressure faced by U.S. President Donald Trump following the publication of millions of documents last week. The files mention Trump multiple times, though he has insisted that the release “absolves” him of any wrongdoing. He stated, “I didn’t see it myself, but I was told by some very important people that not only does it absolve me, it’s the opposite of what people were hoping, you know, the radical Left.”

While Trump is referenced over 1,000 times in the documents, no significant new allegations against him have emerged. Russian media appeared to focus on the negative impact the files have had on Trump’s administration.

For example, the newspaper Vedomosti wrote: “The scandal over the latest publication of documents linked to the Jeffrey Epstein case continues to shock American society. U.S. President Donald Trump, who is mentioned in them, will do everything he can to distract attention from this fact. It could prompt abrupt decision-making.”

Another outlet added: “No matter how hard Trump’s team tried, the publication of the files of the billionaire pedophile (Jeffrey Epstein) tarnishes it too.”

These reports were translated by BBC Russia Editor Steve Rosenberg. In the U.S., some politicians and Epstein victims have criticized the release as incomplete and called for all documents to be made public. During his 2024 presidential campaign, Trump had pledged to ensure the full release of the Epstein Files.
