Fox News viewers turn on 'laughable' Melania Trump as she makes historic move

Melania Trump made history by presiding over a United Nations Security Council meeting, but reactions, particularly from Fox News viewers, were far from positive.

On March 2, in New York, the First Lady chaired the meeting focused on children and education in conflict zones. This marked the first time in U.N. history that the spouse of a world leader has presided over such a session. During her address, Melania emphasized the importance of education as a path to peace, stating, “A nation that makes learning sacred protects its books, its language, its science and its mathematics it protects its future. This leads to something powerful, to greater understanding, moral reasoning and tolerance of others. Peace.”

A clip of the meeting aired live on Fox News, showing Melania inviting U.N. Undersecretary General Rosemary DiCarlo to participate and then guiding the Council through the agenda. However, many viewers expressed frustration on social media. Comments included, “Why is she there?” and “This is laughable. Play the ‘what if a much more qualified Michelle Obama had done this’ game.” Others went further, saying, “We could not look like a bigger laughing stock on the world stage if we tried. God help us if we don’t make it to November.”

Despite the backlash from viewers, Fox News host Martha MacCallum highlighted the historic nature of the moment. She explained that the U.S. holds the rotating Security Council presidency for a month and noted, “A first lady or first gentleman has never done this. Let’s watch some of this.” After the clip, MacCallum emphasized Melania’s focus on education, technology, and promoting peace, calling it “an interesting afternoon” and “a first for our First Lady at the United Nations.”

While the segment received criticism from some viewers online, it undeniably marked a unique moment in U.N. history, showing a First Lady stepping into a role traditionally reserved for diplomats.
