During a recent visit to Memphis, Tennessee, Donald Trump once again veered off-topic this time discussing rock and roll legend Elvis Presley and crooner Frank Sinatra.
The 79-year-old president was in Memphis for a roundtable on the achievements of the Memphis Safe Task Force. But shortly into the event, he started talking about his plans after the discussion, mentioning a potential visit to Graceland, Elvis’ famous home. What followed was a meandering monologue about his admiration for the King of Rock and Roll.
“You know, I’m going to see Graceland after this? I think, is that right?” Trump asked during the discussion. “I love Elvis. I never met Elvis. I met ‘em all Frank Sinatra, I knew all of ‘em. I never met Elvis. Sometimes I feel I should tell a little fib, say, ‘I knew him well.’ I love Elvis, but I never met him. But I’m gonna go see Graceland after this, I think. I’m sure it’s not going to be a very long stay. But I want to see that.”
The comments quickly went viral online, sparking reactions that ranged from bemused to critical. Many questioned why he didn’t just claim to have known Elvis, given that critics often accuse him of bending the truth on other topics.
“Aw c’mon Donnie, give telling a little lie a shot. Maybe you’ll find you’re really good at it,” one person joked on X (formerly Twitter). Another chimed in: “I mean, why stop lying now?”
Some expressed concern about his mental state, noting that his rambling style could be alarming when combined with his presidential role. “By tomorrow, he will be claiming Elvis performed at his first inauguration,” one user quipped, while another added, “Stable genius.”
Others were more serious in their criticism. “He’s bonkers. How can Congress all be so deep in the grift that they are willing to subject themselves and us to an obviously mentally compromised POTUS?” one user asked. Another remarked, “Biden would have been ejected a month after he was confirmed if he said anything close to this crap.”
As Trump continues to juggle high-profile political battles, including the partial government shutdown, moments like these only fuel the ongoing debate over his behavior and credibility.
