Melania Trump's 9-word message to war zone children at Easter Egg Roll

First Lady Melania Trump spoke briefly about children affected by war during the 2026 White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, an event taking place as President Donald Trump’s approval ratings reach new lows.

Standing beside the president on the South Lawn, Melania and Trump took questions from reporters before joining families and children for the annual festivities. While most questions focused on the ongoing Iran conflict, one journalist directed a question specifically to the first lady.

Melania, hands in her pockets, responded: “Well, all of this is happening for their future. So they will be safe in years to come.” Her comments suggested that the current global tensions would ultimately serve children’s long-term interests. Hundreds of families attended the Easter Egg Roll, many bringing children aged 13 and under.

President Trump, prior to the event’s main activities, addressed reporters on the Iran conflict, claiming ongoing discussions with Iran’s new leadership while asserting that Iranians supported the war. “The Iranian people, when they don’t hear bombs go off, they’re upset. They want to hear bombs because they want to be free,” he said.

Trump’s Approval Ratings

Recent polling from CNN shows Trump’s approval rating has fallen sharply, reaching record lows nationwide. Analyst Harry Enten described the trend as a “steady fall into the abyss,” noting Trump now has the worst net approval rating among independents of any president in a second term.

The Economist/YouGov poll conducted from March 27–30 found Trump’s approval rating at 35%, with disapproval at 58%. This represents his lowest net approval rating in either of his presidential terms. Enten attributed the decline to multiple factors, not just the Iran conflict.
