Barron Trump tells Ivanka 'I couldn't' as lip reader spots cryptic four-word comment

A lip reader claims that Barron Trump made a mysterious remark to his half-sister Ivanka during the State of the Union address.

Donald Trump’s youngest son, 19-year-old Barron, was seen engaging in a brief exchange with Ivanka Trump at the nearly two-hour-long speech, delivered in the president’s signature bombastic style. The event marked Barron’s first public appearance since his father’s inauguration. Alongside Barron, other family members including Melania and Ivanka attended the address.

Jeremy Freeman, a professional lip reader, reported noticing a short conversation between the siblings. According to Freeman, Ivanka appeared to ask Barron, “What are you doing on…?” though the final word was unclear. Barron’s response, interpreted through lip reading, was: “I’m not sure, I couldn’t be arsed.” The context of Ivanka’s question remains unknown.

Interest in Barron has grown in recent years, particularly after he appeared at a campaign rally ahead of the 2024 US Election. Some have speculated that he may one day follow in his father’s political footsteps once he completes his studies.

Barron has also reportedly played a role in shaping his father’s appeal to younger voters. A Time report by Eric Cortellessa detailed that during the 2024 campaign, Trump consulted Barron on which podcasts he should appear on. When campaign advisor Alex Bruesewitz presented a list of options, Trump allegedly asked: “Have you talked this over with Barron?” After learning he had not, Trump instructed, “Call Barron and see what he thinks and let me know.”

Barron’s attendance at the State of the Union coincided with the fourth anniversary of the war in Ukraine a conflict Trump had previously claimed he could resolve swiftly. Despite its significance, analysis shows that Trump devoted only about 20 seconds of his record-length speech to the war, briefly noting the ongoing fighting and casualties before returning to other topics. He stated: “A war which would have never happened if I were president. As president, I will make peace wherever I can, but I will not hesitate to confront threats to America.”
