President Donald Trump is preparing to highlight his first year back in office during his upcoming State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress.
Ahead of the address, Fox News Chief White House Correspondent Bret Baier offered insight into the “pain” many Americans are feeling regarding the economy. On Tuesday, February 24, Trump is scheduled to meet with Congress to deliver the speech, where he is expected to showcase his administration’s accomplishments and outline the Republican agenda leading into the midterm elections.
Hours before taking the podium, Trump told reporters he plans to propose additional tax cuts as part of his economic initiatives. Following this, Baier discussed how Americans are reacting to the current economic climate. During a segment of America’s Newsroom, co-host Gillian Turner cited a recent poll showing that 40% of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of the economy, while 59% disapprove.
Baier noted, “A significant portion of this speech will likely address the impacts of the Big Beautiful Bill and what the administration believes Americans are beginning to feel as the year progresses.” He added that the recent rise in consumer confidence could set a positive tone heading into the address, despite earlier low numbers.
According to Baier, the polls provide a snapshot of how effective Trump’s economic policies have been. “There are people who are feeling pain from this economy, and you see that reflected in polls nationwide,” he said.
While Trump is expected to address economic issues, Baier emphasized that they won’t dominate the speech. The president will also cover a wide range of topics, including Iran, the situation in Venezuela, Supreme Court developments, and trade tariffs, all while considering how these subjects will play in front of the justices seated in the front row.
Baier described the upcoming address as “fascinating,” anticipating that Trump will weave together policy updates and real-life examples. During the speech, several guests, including Erika Kirk and Sage Blair, will be invited to illustrate and emphasize the administration’s policy goals.
At the same time, Democratic lawmakers have invited survivors of Jeffrey Epstein and other critics to attend as a form of protest, ensuring the event will reflect a variety of perspectives on the administration’s record.
