Fox News hosts give Trump alarming 'wake-up call' as they say ‘you’re fooling yourself'

Even Fox News hosts on Fox & Friends, known for their consistent support of Donald Trump and Republican policies, appeared concerned after covering a recent special state senate election in Texas.

The race was held to fill a seat previously held by a four-term Republican, and Democrat Taylor Rehmet won by 14 points over Republican Leigh Wambsganss. This district had been carried by Trump by 17 points in 2024 and is in a county that Joe Biden narrowly won in 2020.

While Trump offered his own take on the outcome, the Fox & Friends hosts took a different approach on their February 2 episode. Carley Shimkus, Lawrence B. Jones, and Brian Kilmeade analyzed the results and highlighted issues that could signal challenges for Republicans in upcoming elections.

Jones noted that Republican turnout was unusually low, with only 15% of registered Republicans voting. He also pointed out that Hispanic voters, who had historically supported Republicans in Texas, were trending away from the party. “It’s not about socialism or border policies it’s about how policy is handled,” he said.

Kilmeade added that the Texas result fits a broader pattern. He cited recent close races in Virginia, New Jersey, and Tennessee, noting that Republicans have struggled to show the same strength they had following Trump’s previous victories. He emphasized that Democrats are gaining fundraising momentum in key states like Georgia and North Carolina, suggesting Republicans need to reassess strategy before the midterms.

Shimkus agreed that the Texas race should serve as a wake-up call, and Jones highlighted that the same candidates will face off again in November. Kilmeade stressed the importance of Hispanic voters, warning that losing their support could undermine earlier Republican efforts in redistricting.

Overall, even on a network usually supportive of Trump, the hosts pointed to voter turnout, messaging, and demographic trends as areas Republicans need to address ahead of the next election cycle.

Fox & Friends airs weekdays on Fox News.
